With a severely broken front leg and in immeasurable pain, the poor puppy was taken into emergency surgery to help save her leg.
Thankfully, Lucy’s surgery was a roaring (or barking) success and gave her a second chance at life.
How people like you stepped up to save Lucy (thank you!)

Lucy’s leg was saved, but her months of medications, vaccinations, health check-ups and daily care left some hefty bills. Her medical costs were in excess of $2,000.
Incredibly, when we asked for help covering these costs, so many of you responded!

The surgery and her extensive after care was generously paid for by hundreds of concerned citizens who donated to Lucy’s emergency animal fund – raising the raising the much-needed $2,000 in costs. What a success.
Thank to the kindness of those who donated, Lucy is now a healthy, happy little Vegemite.
A foster home and then a forever home for Lucy
During her long weeks of recovery, Lucy was placed with RSPCA South Australia foster carer, Lisa. An animal lover herself and owner of two rescue pups, Lisa was able to provide Lucy with the socialisation and stability she needed.
During her stay, Lucy soon learnt how to relate and play to other dogs, giving her the social skills other animals usually develop from birth.
It wasn’t long before Lucy was ready to go up for adoption and found her furever home! Proud new fur-mum Allesia knew Lucy was the one for her right away.
“I could tell really quickly that she is really intelligent. When i was playing with her she was all excited and puppy-like. Then, as soon as i started engaging with her, she would sit for food. I could just tell that she was really responsive to humans,” Allesia says.
Royal treatment for a very spoilt little rescue dog
Now living it up in her new home with Allesia and her dog-mad husband, Lucy is being given the royal treatment.
“My husband’s done so much research on her breed – I got home and he’d already made a month’s worth of food up. It’s things like rice and split peas and chicken hearts, because he knows it’s good for her. She’d eating better than we are!” Says Allesia.
With a four-bedroom home and a large garden, Lucy now spends her days being spoilt rotten by Allesia, who works from home and is able to dote on Lucy all day long. She’s even given Lucy her own Instagram.

None of this would be possible without the kindness of the many hundreds of generous donators who gave up their time and money to help provide Lucy with the best chance at thriving and surviving.
