Family Escape Plan
Have a family meeting and plan an escaperoute in case of a fire. Make sure that you have at least two ways to exitthe room. Have mom or dad draw the plans on a piece of paper. Practiceyour escape plan on a regular basis - at least once a month. Remember thatyour plan should have a meeting place that is safe outside of the home. ie. the big oak tree on the corner; a neighbors front yard; be consistentwith the 'safe place' so children are not confused when it comes time fora real emergency!

Practicing 9-1-1 and Street Address
Practice calling 9-1-1 on a play phone withyour child. Have your child tell you what they might say to the dispatcherif there were a fire or another emergency at your home. Work withyour child so that they know their address.

Remembering 9-1-1
If your child is young, and has troubleremembering the correct sequence of 9-1-1 - Place a small red circle stickeron the 9, and 2 small green circle stickers on the 1 - Practice saying'red, green, green' with your child. Sometimes it is easier for themto remember their colors than it is to remember numbers!

To wrap up our week on ladybugs, I wanted to share with you a fun ladybug song and fingerplay! My son and I made up this song together, and it is similar to one of his favorite songs (5 Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree). I put little ladybugs on his 5 fingers to make this a fingerplay. If you are not familiar with fingerplays, then I recommend reading this post from Teach Preschool.

For this activity, I used 5 ladybugs and washi tape from Michaels Craft Store.

I decided to use washi tape to make it stick to my childs fingers. To assemble, I just wrapped tape around a finger (leaving one side a little longer) and then I pulled back the tape and tucked it under. That way there was a sticky side on top. To demonstrate, Ill show you my lovely (dry) hands…

Then I just stuck a ladybug on the sticky tape. The ladybugs I bought came with wire sticking out of the bottom. I just pulled that off and only used the ladybug. Heres what it looked like on my preschooler. (By the way, I wish I could rub off that dinosaur tattoo…)

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Now to see it in action…here is a video of my son and I singing the 5 Little Ladybugs song. After each verse, he took off a ladybug (and handed it to little brother). Enjoy the video!
